I have so much wool. Wool is literally pouring out of every inch of this house. It had become quite a problem and so I decided that these holidays I would try and use it up and make and finish a blanket of granny squares. I give you the wool scrap blanket.
This blanket is made up of granny circles turned into squares that I will put together to make one fabulous blanket. I love that I can use and colour combination that I have, pair it with the chocolate brown border and wallah. PRETTY.
In this pattern I will be telling you how to make the granny's. The joining and making of the blanket will come at a later date when I reach that point.! Bear in mind that I haven't stated in the pattern when you can change the colours. That is up to you. If you don't know how to join different colours there is some good tutorials on the web that will show you how.
So first off you take your yarn and I use a 5mm hook for this project.
Row 1: Chain 6. Join with a slip stitch to form a ring. Chain 2. Into your ring you are going to double crochet 11 stitches. So you will now have 12 DC on your ring. Slip stitch into the first chain 2 to finish off your first row.
Row 2: chain 2. DC once into the same stitch as your chain 2 space. This will form 2DC into that stitch. Now continue this pattern around your ring, 2DC into each stitch space. You should have 12 lots of 2DC in this row. Slip stitch into your first chain 2 to finish off your second row.
Row 3: chain 2. DC twice into the same stitch as your chain 2 space. This will form 3DC into that stitch. Now continue this pattern around your ring, 3DC into each stitch space. You should have 12 lots of 3DC in this row. Slip stitch into your first chain 2 to finish off your third row.
Row 4: Chain 2. DC twice into the same stitch as your chain 2 space. this will form 3DC into that stitch. Chain 1. Now continue this pattern around your ring: 3DC into each stitch space followed by a chain one. On the last stitch do not chain one, but slip stitch into the first chain 2 to finish off the fourth row.
Row 5: This row will make your circle a square. Chain 2. DC twice into the the same stitch space as your chain 2. this will form 3DC into that stitch. Chain 1. 3DC into the next stitch. Chain 1. In the next stitch to make your corner, 3DC into the stitch, chain one and 3DC into the same stitch space. This will make your corner. Chain one. Continue this pattern around to make your square. So it will be 2 lots of 3DC with chain1 inbetween each followed by 3DC, chain1 and 3DC in the same space to make your corner. Make sense? slip stitch into the first chain 2 to finish off row 5 and bind off.
Once you have made all of your granny's you will need to tie off and stitch in all the ends and join them. This I will blog another day. You will need almost 70-100 granny's to make this blanket!.....stay tuned!!!
