Saying goodbye to Max

Yesterday was a hard day for our family. It was the day we said goodbye to our beloved dog Max... We didn't want to say goodbye. We were not prepared to say goodbye, but Unfortunately Max was taken from our family in a sudden awful way.

Mac was hit by a car whilst my husband was running with him yesterday. He died on impact.

When Mark got to the front door with him in his arms and proclaimed "max was hit by a car" I only had to look at my husbands eyes to know the answer. To know that he was gone.

And he was.

We put him on the kitchen floor and each of the kids came over to hug him and say goodbye. It was heartbreaking. He was just still. No life. No jumpy little maxi-boy. Just still. As if asleep.

We buried him in our yard with the kids by our sides. It was their first real experience of death. They did not take it well. Everyone walked around like zombies for the rest of the day.

Today, as I dropped off the kids to school I said to them. "isn't it sad that our dog Max is gone" to which Naomi replied...."He is not gone, he is in our backyard!".

True.

It is a fact that a part of our family is missing though and that is really sad.

  3. Hardest thing for kids to deal with is death - I love your honesty with your kids and that you didn't choose the 'Max has gone to live with another family on a farm' route.

It is such a hard lesson to learn - dealing with deal and grief - but such an essential one.
